Hot Club of Cowtown to play the LOPE ex-racehorse Benefit & Open House on Saturday, October 4, 2014
The LOPE Open House on October 4 will feature the Hot Club of Cowtown, horsemanship demos, cool education booths on racing and retraining racehorses, farm tours, chicken bingo, delicious BBQ food from J Bar B Foods, several friendly ex-racehorses to meet and a silent auction at LOPE’s Wimberley location at the gorgeous Foothills Farm.
The event will be a festive blend of Austin music, food, beverages and more — all at a lovely farm with beautiful views and several happy ex-racehorses.
Fun in the Afternoon
The event is timed early, so that visitors can stop by easily during their day. Come spend the afternoon in the peaceful setting of the farm, learn about our work, enjoy some BBQ, bid on terrific silent auction items and listen to the exuberant music of Hot Club in front of the barn.
Tour
Tour the Wimberley farm and learn about LOPE’s work of helping ex-racehorses find new homes.
Free Event
Best of all, our Open House is free and open to the public! We wanted to hold the Open House for everyone to meet the LOPE horses and staff, tour the Wimberley farm and learn about LOPE’s work of helping ex-racehorses find new homes after their track days are finished. Donations are welcome but not required. Just come and have fun getting to know our horses and us!
Chicken Bingo
A lively game of chicken bingo will be held at the Open House! The game is simple. We put a friendly, amateur chicken in a large cage with a checkerboard of numbers on the floor. Players buy a number (or several) and hope the chicken will make a manure deposit on that particular number on the grid. The winner will receive a brand new Yeti Roadie Cooler!
Silent Auction
The Open House will have a small but select silent auction with a racehorse theme. Items include two special opportunities to officially name young Thoroughbred yearling colts who will grow into racehorses, a gorgeous equine art print by a nationally recognized equine artist, a red carpet tour at the famous Three Chimneys breeding farm in Kentucky, halters from famous racehorses and riding lessons (including some on ex-racehorses). Bidding will begin online and will culminate with live bidding at the Open House!
